Ontario’s post-secondary institutions are facing unprecedented challenges, threatening the sustainability of Child and Youth Care (CYC) programs. Without these programs, the well-being of children, youth, and families — and direct care practitioners who support them — is at risk.
“Without well-trained CYC professionals, the risks to children and youth escalate significantly — leading to unsafe environments, systemic rights violations, and even tragic losses.”
The Ontario Association of Child and Youth Care (OACYC) and the Child and Youth Care Educational Accreditation Board of Canada (CYCEAB) are calling on governments, institutional leaders, and community partners to:
Prioritize funding for CYC programs
Ensure accessible education for diverse and marginalized students
Uphold rigorous professional standards
Investing in CYC education isn’t just about maintaining programs — it’s about protecting lives and sustaining essential care services across Ontario.
