Child & Youth Care Education
Professional Child and Youth Care Practitioners have successfully completed a post-secondary Child and Youth care program from a publicly funded and/or Child & Youth Care Educational Accedidation Board accredited college or university and/or successfully completed the Child & Youth Care Certification Board certification process. Once a person has successfully completed their education/certification, they are eligible for Full Professional Certified Membership with the OACYC. This membership identifies the member’s commitment to a higher standard of practice and accountability.
The Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities sets the Child and Youth Care Program Standards for the accredited programs in the Province of Ontario.

CYCCB Certification
The OACYC works with the Child and Youth Care Certification Board (CYCCB) to offer Child and Youth Care Practitioner certification to practitioners in Ontario (both with and without accredited CYC program qualifications). The CYCCB awards professional certification to individuals who demonstrate their commitment to professional practice and higher standards.
This certification is based on competencies that are organized across five domains:
- Professionalism
- Cultural and human diversity
- Applied human development
- Relationship and communication
- Developmental practice methods

The certification process includes four components:
- Successful completion of the CYCCB situational judgement exam
- Submission of an application
- Completion of a portfolio
- Submission of references
The OACYC can help you to complete the certification process from proctoring the exam to setting up a support session that will assist with the completion of your portfolio.
Fees are detailed below. Please contact us to let us know you are interested in an examination date in your area. Exams are also able to be booked on request. If an agency or group of individuals of more than 5 people want to write the exam, the OACYC will work with them in the geographic location they are in.
