What happens when dedicated leadership for youth, mental health & families is no longer prioritized?

The OACYC is deeply concerned about the federal government’s recent cabinet restructuring, which eliminated standalone ministerial positions for Mental Health and Addictions, Women and Gender Equality, and Children, Families, and Social Development. While these areas may still exist within broader government portfolios, the removal of dedicated ministers raises serious concerns about the prioritization of critical services for children, youth, and families.

Why does this matter?

🔹 Without dedicated leadership, these issues risk being deprioritized amid competing government responsibilities.

🔹 Funding for youth mental health, child welfare, and social development programs could be impacted.

🔹 CYC professionals rely on clear policies and strong government commitments to provide the best care possible.

We’re calling on the federal government to clarify how these crucial areas will be prioritized under the new cabinet structure. Youth, families, and the professionals who support them deserve strong, focused leadership.
