At the OACYC Conference in Toronto in June 2017, we recognized Heather Snell with the 2017 OACYC Award of Excellence .

 

2017 Dennis McDermott Career Achievement Award Recipient

At the OACYC Conference in Toronto in June 2017, we recognized  Theresa Fraser with the Dennis McDermott Career Achievement Award.

 

 


THE OACYC AWARD OF EXCELLENCE   

The OACYC Award of Excellence is designed to honour individuals who demonstrate excellence in the field of child and youth care. This excellence could, for example, be observed in the following areas:

  • engagement,
  • leadership,
  • strength-based approaches,
  • creativity and/or
  • advocacy.

In addition, the nomination should provide examples of the candidate’s active promotion of the spirit of child & youth care, commitment to professional development, and ethical practice.

Nomination and Selection Processes    

The nomination of candidates for the Child and Youth Care Award of Excellence is driven directly by the OACYC membership. This is your chance to recognize the work of a mentor, colleague or someone whose work you admire. The nominee must be a certified or professional member in good standing in the OACYC.*

The Award Committee is a standing committee of the OACYC Board of Directors. This committee will review the nominations and select one recipient annually. The deadline for nominations to be received at the OACYC office is March 30. Nominations should be submitted to This email address is being protected from spambots. Public Recognition

The recipient of the award will be featured on the OACYC website, in the Chronicle and will be acknowledged at the AGM or provincial conference. The recipient will receive a one-year complementary membership to the Association and a $250 cash prize.

Nomination Procedure

To nominate your candidate, please submit the following information. We welcome self-nominations:

1. A letter listing the following:

  • The Candidates Name (The candidate must be a professional member, in good standing)
  • Current Employment (Most recent employment)
  • The name of the Nominator, who must also be a member of the OACYC.
  • A short text from the nominator stating their support for the nomination.
  • A list of the accomplishments of the individual stating why you believe they should receive the Award of Excellence

2. In addition to the Nomination Letter, we require 1 additional reference letter from an employer/colleague.

The deadline for nominations to be received at the OACYC office is March 30th, 2016.

THE DENNIS McDERMOTT CAREER ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

This award recognizes the outstanding life-time career accomplishments of our members and their dedication to the Ontario Association of Child & Youth Care.

This award is given biennially and is Provincial in scope. The award is presented at the Provincial Conference.

The award is designed to honour the achievements of Child & Youth Care Practitioners who have been in the field for over 20 years, have actively supported the OACYC and have realized significant career achievements. In addition nominees must hold a diploma in Child & Youth Work or a degree in Child & Youth Care, act as a mentor and role model for Child & Youth Care Practitioners and contribute to the overall enhancement of the profession.

The deadline for nominations to be received at the OACYC office for this year’s award is March 30, 2016. The final selection is made by the award committee made up of members of the OACYC Board of Directors.

The recipient of the award will be featured on the OACYC website, in the Chronicle and will be acknowledged at the Provincial Conference. The recipient will receive an honorary membership to the OACYC.

NOMINATION PROCEDURE

To nominate your candidate, please ensure your submission includes the following:

  • The Candidates name. The candidate must be a professional member in good standing.
  • Current employment (most recent employment) & job title.
  • The name of the Nominator, who must also be a member of the OACYC.
  • A detailed letter from the nominator stating:
  • Their support for the nomination.
  • the reason for the nomination
  • the accomplishments of the nominee, contributions to the field, a description outlining how mentorship has been provided to other CYWs/CYCs, information about their work history and demonstration of how the candidate supported the OACYC and the overall enhancement of the field. Please provide examples.
